What’s in a name?

Free bubbly for a certain actress in an Off-Broadway whodunit; the stink-eye for one music producer and curve ball questions for one banking adviser.

Meet Kate Middleton, Ted Cruz and Matt Harvey, three New Yorkers who are name twins with celebrities — and deal with the pros and cons of being on the A-list, even if they’re not.

“Everybody cracks the same jokes,” says Middleton, an actress who has to deal with comments about a certain future Queen. One-liners on frequent rotation: What’s your due-date? Can I see your ring? Where’s William?

Middleton, who’s rehearsing the comedy “Shear Madness” beginning performances on Oct. 22, she’s got a ready response for that last one. “I always say, ‘He’s babysitting while I’m here.’”

“But it comes in handy in auditions,” Middleton says. “It’s the best icebreaker ever.”

Cruz, 42, a producer and keyboardist who runs Instant Culture Music, also gets looks and queries from strangers when they hear his name, which he shares with a very conservative Texas senator and presidential hopeful.

“I gave a bartender my credit card and she did this major double take and gave me this look,” says Cruz about a recent visit to Upland on Park Ave. South.

A double-take, but no freebie. “I wish,” says Cruz, who’s performing at Signature Center at 6 p.m. on Oct. 27, adding that he’s not gotten anything gratis for being a famous-name copycat. (Maybe New York is too liberal.)

Harvey, 50, a professional management consultant who deals with banks, relates to dealing with wild pitches.

Returning from a trip to Asia, a customs officer saw his name on his passport and jokingly treated him like the Mets flamethrower.

“Aren’t you supposed to be pitching tonight?” the guard asked.

Harvey had no idea what the guy meant. Not only doesn’t he follow sports at all, he was quite fatigued after a 14-hour flight from Hong Kong.

“I don’t know anything about Matt Harvey, or what he looks like,” says the non-ballplaying Harvey.

Still, the questions come. And the opportunities.

Middleton showed up for dinner at Gotham after making a reservation in her name and was treated like the royalty she isn’t.

“The waiter brought over two glasses of Champagne,” says Middleton.

In a weirder moment, Middleton’s manager got a phone call from someone at Vera Wang inquiring about delivering a dozen wedding dresses about a year before Kate and William tied the knot. She would have loved to say yes to the dresses, but, alas, had to say no.

“I don’t know how that happened,” she says. “But it was the coolest. And the weirdest.”

But some opportunities aren’t even worth exploring when your name is Ted Cruz. It’s not like being confused for the firebrand Tea Party hero is going to get you dates.

“I’ve never used it as a pickup line,” says the New York Cruz, who is single. “I don’t think I ever will.”
